There is a new book on the market titled Evidence of
Harm by David Kirby. He
explores the heated controversy that many parents, physicians, public
officials and educators have called an epidemic of inflicted children.
The MSNBC show “Imus in the Morning” had David Kirby as his
guest. He spoke of mercury in
vaccines and the autism epidemic. Through
our own Homeland Security and the closed meetings of the FDA, CDC, and drug
companies, they had tried to insert a mysterious rider that would bar
massive lawsuits against thimerosal/mercury, the preservative of vaccines.
Thimerosal is a water-soluble, cream-colored, crystalline powder that
is 49.6 percent mercury by weight. It
was invented in the 1920’s under the direction of Eli Lilly.
The question arises why did the CDC and the Food and Drug
Administration allow mercury exposures from childhood vaccines to more than
double between 1988 and 1992 without bothering to cumulatively poll their
potential risks.
Example – One in every 10,000 births in the
1980’s was diagnosed with autism. One
in every 500 births in the late 1990’s was diagnosed with the condition.
This diagnosis has increased in early 2000 to one out of every 250
children born was autistic. In 2004, the national average is one out of every 166
children born has developed autism, ADD, ADHD, symptoms of ear disorders,
diarrhea, etc.
The average dose of mercury that is present in
the human body is 0.59 of a microgram.
By the age of 4, a child has been exposed to as much as 60
micrograms. In infants as young
as six months, this is very detrimental as it has a specific effect on brain
stem development. The book
states that the story takes place during the administration of President
Bill Clinton, while this book’s criticisms are based at the Bush
Administration or the Republicans in the Senate.
The vaccine itself is not the culprit as is the thimerosal, which can
be one of two – methylthimerosal or ethylthimerosal.
Thimerosal was originally marketed in the 1930’s.
You might ask if our government knows this why
weren’t actions taken? The
typical bureaucratical garb rolls on. The
federal government also fears massive lawsuits against the pharmaceutical
empires. In addition, after
9/11, the book offers a possible reasoning that we the American public may
be in dire need of antibiotics to fight off a massive terrorism attack of
airborne bacteria of anthrax and other diseases such as smallpox, etc.
The logical reason would be, are their mercury
free preservatives that could be used?
The answer is OF COURSE, WHY NOT?
It’s a matter of economics. Manufacturers
state it is a very costly proposition.
However, the FDA accelerated the review of applications by drug
companies to produce thimerosal-free vaccines.
They approved a request by Merck to sell a thimerosal-free pediatric
vaccine for hepatitis-B the very next month.
The first case of autism was not reported until
the 1940’s, a few years after thimerosal was introduced into vaccines as a
preservative. Mothers of these
children are intense to change the laws.
They have been affectionately named the “mercury moms.”
In just four years, between the 1992-1993 and
1996-1997 school years, the reported cases of autism in the United States
schools had rocketed from 12,238 to 34,082. This is an increase of 178.6
percent. In Illinois, the spike
in cases seemed impossible. Cases
shot up 21,920 percent. In
1992, Illinois had reported just 5 autism cases.
Four years later, the Illinois number had risen to 1,101.
Such drastic increases invited skepticism about the Department of
Education numbers. Surely
Illinois had somehow missed most cases in the early years of the IDEA
program. Illinois was at least
partially catching up in terms of counting and reporting its own numbers. IDEA was radically revamped and expanded in 1992, when autism
spectrum disorders were added to the list of disabilities covered.
Of course it would take a few years to count all the new cases.
Given the EPA daily guideline of 0.1 microgram
per kilogram, many children at two months of age received almost 90 times
the daily limit in a single doctor’s visit.
And the smallest babies were given approximately eight months’
worth of daily exposures (240 times the daily limit) in a single day.
Folks do you remember Mercurochrome?
Mercurochrome contained mercury-based preservatives just like
vaccines. It was reclassified
as “not generally recognized as safe and effective.” In 1982, that
“red stuff” was too toxic to rub on your skin but okay to inject into
newborn babies. Something is
not right here.
So what do all those letters mean? Autism is a Greek prefix for self-auto. ASD is autism spectrum disorder.
ADD is attention deficit disorder.
ADHD is attention deficit hyperactive disorder.
